Ben Behzad Lahouti
BSc PT, MSc, DPT
Physiotherapist – Rehabilitation Researcher

Ben is a registered physiotherapist who earned his Bachelor of Science in Physiotherapy from Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences (SBMU), one of Iran’s leading medical universities. He later completed a Master of Science in Exercise Neuroscience at Memorial University of Newfoundland, where his research focused on understanding the neurophysiological mechanisms and adaptations of the nervous system in response to exercise. In recognition of his academic excellence and research achievements, he was awarded the Fellow of the School of Graduate Studies, an honour recognizing outstanding achievement in graduate education.
Committed to lifelong learning and professional development, Ben later earned his DPT (Doctor of Physical Therapy) from The College of St. Scholastica in Minnesota, USA, graduating with an A- academic standing. The DPT program further expanded his knowledge of contemporary physiotherapy practice by strengthening his clinical reasoning, evidence-based decision-making, differential diagnosis, diagnostic imaging interpretation, and patient-centred rehabilitation. This advanced education enabled him to approach patient assessment and treatment from a broader, more comprehensive perspective while integrating the latest research into everyday clinical practice.
Throughout his career, Ben has gained extensive experience treating a wide range of musculoskeletal and orthopedic conditions, with particular interests in sports injuries, postoperative rehabilitation, concussion management, vestibular rehabilitation, and return-to-sport programs. He has worked extensively with athletic populations, particularly soccer players, and holds the FIFA Diploma in Football Medicine, along with numerous postgraduate certifications in manual therapy and orthopedic rehabilitation. His treatment philosophy combines thorough clinical assessment, hands-on therapy, individualized exercise prescription, patient education, and evidence-based practice to help patients achieve meaningful and lasting recovery.
Alongside his clinical work, Ben has a strong passion for research and knowledge translation. He has authored and co-authored peer-reviewed scientific publications in internationally recognized journals, including Experimental Brain Research, with his work focusing on exercise neuroscience and rehabilitation. His ongoing involvement in research continues to shape his clinical practice and reinforces his commitment to delivering the highest standard of evidence-based patient care.
As a co-founder of RehabOttawa.ca, Ben leads the development of evidence-based rehabilitation protocols and educational resources for patients and healthcare professionals. Working alongside a multidisciplinary team of physiotherapists, researchers, and graduate students, he is committed to translating the latest scientific evidence into practical rehabilitation guidelines that support high-quality clinical care. RehabOttawa.ca represents the first stage of a larger initiative currently under development. Together with a team of healthcare professionals, researchers, and technology experts, Ben is helping build an evidence-based rehabilitation ecosystem designed to better support patients throughout their postoperative recovery journey. The long-term vision is to bridge the gap between surgery and rehabilitation by providing personalized guidance, education, and ongoing support that empowers patients to achieve the best possible recovery. Further updates on the project’s future stages will be shared soon.
