With more than 10 years of clinical experience, Maryam has primarily worked in musculoskeletal rehabilitation, helping individuals recover from acute injuries, chronic pain conditions, and movement impairments. She has also completed advanced training in pelvic floor rehabilitation and spine-related disorders, allowing her to provide comprehensive, evidence-based care for patients with a wide range of orthopedic and musculoskeletal conditions. Her clinical approach emphasizes individualized assessment, patient education, therapeutic exercise, and active rehabilitation to improve function, reduce pain, and enhance quality of life. Maryam’s current doctoral research focuses on chronic low back pain in older adults, with the goal of improving rehabilitation outcomes, functional independence, and long-term participation in meaningful daily activities. She is particularly interested in understanding the complex interaction between aging, persistent pain, physical function, and quality of life, and in developing rehabilitation strategies that promote healthy aging and optimize long-term outcomes.
Alongside her clinical practice and research, Maryam is passionate about evidence-based physiotherapy and lifelong learning. She is committed to integrating current scientific evidence, clinical practice guidelines, and patient preferences into rehabilitation planning to deliver high-quality, patient-centred care. She believes that combining rigorous research with clinical expertise is essential for advancing rehabilitation practice and improving patient outcomes. As a member of the RehabOttawa.ca team, Maryam contributes to the development and scientific review of evidence-based rehabilitation protocols, with particular interests in chronic low back pain, spine rehabilitation, postoperative recovery, healthy aging, and evidence-based musculoskeletal care. Working alongside a multidisciplinary team of physiotherapists, researchers, and healthcare professionals, she is committed to ensuring that the project’s clinical recommendations reflect the latest scientific evidence and best practices.
