Alireza Tahmasbi is a physiotherapist and PhD Candidate in Rehabilitation Sciences at the University of Ottawa. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Physiotherapy from the University of Social Welfare and Rehabilitation Sciences before completing a Master of Science in Physiotherapy at Tehran University of Medical Sciences. His doctoral research focuses on improving outcomes following orthopedic surgeries in individuals with hip and knee osteoarthritis, with an emphasis on optimizing rehabilitation strategies and enhancing long-term functional recovery.
Throughout his clinical career, Alireza has gained valuable experience in both inpatient and outpatient orthopedic rehabilitation, working with patients recovering from musculoskeletal injuries, joint replacement surgeries, and other orthopedic conditions. His clinical approach combines comprehensive assessment, individualized exercise prescription, patient education, and evidence-based rehabilitation to help patients restore mobility, reduce pain, and safely return to their daily activities and recreational pursuits.
In addition to his clinical practice, Alireza has developed a strong research portfolio with several peer-reviewed scientific publications in the field of physiotherapy and rehabilitation. His research interests include postoperative rehabilitation, musculoskeletal disorders, hip and knee osteoarthritis, outcome measurement, and evidence synthesis. He is passionate about generating high-quality clinical evidence and translating scientific findings into practical recommendations that support clinicians in delivering effective, patient-centred musculoskeletal care.
Alireza believes that the integration of clinical expertise and rigorous scientific research is essential for advancing rehabilitation practice and improving patient outcomes. Through his doctoral research and ongoing collaboration with clinicians and researchers, he strives to develop meaningful evidence that can be readily applied in everyday clinical practice, ultimately improving the quality of care provided to patients undergoing orthopedic rehabilitation.
As a member of the RehabOttawa.ca team, Alireza contributes to the development and scientific review of evidence-based rehabilitation protocols, with particular interests in hip and knee osteoarthritis, postoperative rehabilitation, outcome measurement, and evidence synthesis. Working alongside a multidisciplinary team of physiotherapists, researchers, and healthcare professionals, he is committed to ensuring that the project’s clinical recommendations reflect the highest quality scientific evidence.
