Sobhan (Soby) Sobhani is a registered physiotherapist with an extensive background in clinical practice, research, and academic leadership. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Physiotherapy from Ahvaz Jundishapur University of Medical Sciences, followed by a Master of Science in Sports Physiotherapy from Shiraz University of Medical Sciences, Iran. He later completed his PhD in Rehabilitation Science at the University of Groningen in the Netherlands, where his doctoral research focused on investigating the effects of different types of footwear on Achilles tendinopathy, running biomechanics, and athletic performance. Following his PhD, he continued his academic career as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Groningen, further advancing his research in musculoskeletal rehabilitation and sports medicine.
Throughout his academic career, Soby has held several leadership and teaching positions, including Assistant Professor in the Department of Physiotherapy and Associate Dean for Research Affairs at Shiraz University of Medical Sciences. His work has been dedicated to advancing rehabilitation science through high-quality research, mentorship, and the translation of scientific evidence into clinical practice.
Soby has more than 20 years of international clinical experience treating a wide range of musculoskeletal and orthopedic conditions, with particular expertise in sports injuries, chronic pain, concussion management, lower extremity rehabilitation, and running-related injuries. He has completed numerous postgraduate certifications in Dry Needling and Acupuncture, Clinical Gait Analysis, Concussion Assessment and Management, Lumbopelvic Manual Therapy, Persistent Pain Management, and Myofascial Release Techniques. His clinical approach combines comprehensive assessment, manual therapy, individualized exercise prescription, and evidence-based rehabilitation to help patients return to their highest level of function.
In addition to his clinical practice, Soby has made significant contributions to rehabilitation research. He has authored more than 30 peer-reviewed scientific publications in internationally recognized journals, including Physical Therapy in Sport, Human Movement Science, Gait & Posture, British Journal of Sports Medicine, and Scandinavian Journal of Medicine & Science in Sports. He also serves as a reviewer for several leading scientific journals, reflecting his continued commitment to advancing evidence-based physiotherapy and rehabilitation research.
As a co-founder of RehabOttawa.ca, Soby plays a leading role in developing evidence-based rehabilitation protocols and ensuring that the project’s clinical recommendations reflect the highest quality scientific evidence. Working alongside a multidisciplinary team of physiotherapists, researchers, and graduate students, he is committed to translating current rehabilitation research into practical resources that support clinicians and improve patient care. RehabOttawa.ca represents the first stage of a larger initiative currently under development. Together with a team of healthcare professionals, researchers, and technology experts, Soby is helping build an evidence-based rehabilitation ecosystem designed to better support patients throughout their postoperative recovery journey. The long-term vision is to bridge the gap between surgery and rehabilitation by providing personalized guidance, education, and ongoing support that empowers patients to achieve the best possible recovery.
